Leon Battista Alberti was born on 14 February 1404, in Genoa, Italy. His father Lorenzo Alberti belonged to a rich and patrician family in Florence, who were engaged in merchant banking. The name of his mother is unknown but according to most historians he was born out of wedlock.Leon Battista Alberti was an Italian scholar, poet and humanist, as well as an art theorist and architect. He was born in Genoa on February 14, 1404, to a noble family with Florentine origins. He studied in Venice, Padua and Bologna, where he obtained a degree in canonical law in 1428.Family, a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption, constituting a single household and interacting with each other in their respective social positions, usually those of spouses, parents, children, and siblings. The family group should be distinguished from a household.
Leon Battista Alberti, born in the 15th Century originally from Genoa was educated at Padua and Bologna in classics, mathematics and Church canon law.He was a typical Humanist and his education also made him well-versed in philosophy, science and the arts. In 1421, he attended the University of Bologna where he studied law, which he did not enjoy.Alberti’s book as a whole examines the household in it’s entirety. He defines the family unit as “children, wife, and other members of the household including relatives and servants.” (A 66) Babaro wrote On Wifely Duties as a wedding gift to his friend Lorenzo to give his opinions on ideals that he believed would be useful to his marriage.
Writer, Renaissance architect, humanist philosopher, and artistic theorist, Leon Battista Alberti is considered to be the Renaissance’s “universal man” of learning. In addition to painting, designing buildings, and writing scientific, artistic and philosophical treatises, Alberti wrote the first book on Italian grammar and cryptography.
